The Office Dance

We really love The Office and watch it a lot. Mariah has learned to recognize the theme music and has made up her own dance which she performs exclusively to the Office theme song. Here is a video.

Halloween

Mariah LOVES anything Cinderella. She even says "rella"when she sees Cinderella anywhere. So we thought it would be fun for her to be Cinderella for Halloween. Here are some pics.

Mariah "Cher" Frisby

A little while back Mariah had Laura's hip scarf and, as she does with most linear objects, she put it around her neck and on her head. Here's some footage of it and a picture.

Summer Update

Hey sorry it's been awhile. Cody is totally better now. He switched to graveyard so that's been an adjustment for us. Lately he's at work, sleeping or working on his golf swing. He is also going to take a few classes at UVSC. I'm still working at Montessori. This semester it will count as an internship so I can finally graduate! And Mariah is so cute we can't even stand it. She says so many real words now as well as her babble words. She says: hi, mama, dada, banana, dog, kitty, shoes, fish, ball, cracker, baba, duck, and more I can't think of. Her dance moves just keep getting better. This video doesn't do them justice, but she is still very cute in it so enjoy!

Cody's Surgery

Last Monday (June 18th), Cody woke up with major abdominal pain. Then he started violently throwing up. At about 9:30 we took him to instacare. They gave him pain and nausea medication and then the doctor ran a few tests and ordered a CT scan at Orem Commuity Hospital to check for appendicitis. By 12:30, we found out he did indeed have appendicitis and would have to have surgery. We drove down to Utah Valley Hospital where we were told to go back to Orem Community. When we got there, we were told to go back to Utah Valley. Meanwhile, we were hoping that Cody's appendix was not going to burst.
He got into pre-op by about 3:00 where his pain and nausea meds wore off. I won't go into details, but it was awful. He finally got into surgery by 5:30 and was awake by 7:00. What a day!
Cody is doing much better now and is pretty much back to normal life. We are SO grateful for surgeons and for health insurance! And thanks again to all who helped us out with babysitting, food and support.

Moab

We spent May 31-June 3 in Moab. My parents had never been there so we invited them to come along. We took them to Devil's Garden and Delicate Arch. We learned a few things along the way. Mariah hates being in a baby backpack and also hates wearing a hat. But somehow we managed to get her through the hikes alive and without a sunburn. We also learned that my eyes are allergic to tear-free sunscreen. My eyes watered incessantly after exposure to light or air so I hiked Delicate Arch with my eyes closed half the time, holding Cody's hand. However, we had a wonderful time visiting the great outdoors and relaxing at the condo. I'll let the pictures say the rest.

This picture shows it all, my eyes are closed, Mariah is bawling, and Cody is happy to be home in the great outdoors.

The Zoo

On Memorial Day, we went to the zoo with Jody, Patrick and Ammon. Mariah enjoyed seeing all the animals, but her favorite part was the water fountain (see below).

Coming Attractions

Our blog is being dumb about pictures right now. Soon we'll have new posts about the zoo and our trip to Moab. Sorry it's been so long! And we'll also have new links to Tricia and Ryan's and Kollecker's blog.

Just had to share these

Mariah Walking

Mariah took her first steps when she was seven months old. Since then, she's been teasing us with a few steps here and there while cruising between pieces of furniture. But yesterday it clicked. With a twinkle in her eye and a big grin on her face she realized she could walk all by herself while Cody and I watched in a fit of giddy laughter. About two minutes later, she walked straight for the broom. She used to grab the broom and sweep while sitting, but this time, she swept as she walked across the whole kitchen. Here is some footage of the exciting event.

Mariah Dancing

Here's some footage of Mariah getting her groove on with 311. (Parental Advisory, explicit lyrics). Enjoy!

Mariah Laughing

Now that the semester is over, I'll have more time to post. And thanks to Sharla, we have finally found a way to post videos right on our blog! This one was filmed when Mariah was about six months old while she was watching another baby laughing on YouTube.

Update

Mariah didn't really get a car for her birthday. That was Cody's present--for the next five years. Mariah is now 13 months old and so hilarious. Her personality is shining through. She loves other kids, especially her cousins Ammon and Max. She also loves animals. Whenever she sees a cat, she gets really excited and repeats the word "kitty." She also says other words like "uh-oh"and "hi." She uses a few signs too, mostly for "milk" and "hungry." She likes to play the piano and hide-and-seek. Oh! She LOVES to dance. She's got moves that include head bangs, shoulder shimmies and belly rolls. I'm sure it will only get better when she is confindent with her balance. If anyone knows how to post movies for free, tell me and I'll post her dancing. It's hilarious!

Happy First Birthday Mariah

As Mariah's first birthday was drawing near I thought "what could I get her that would be really, really cool?" It's a little too early for her first bike. I didn't want to get her a Barbie (I want her to be old enough to make that decision on her own). She has tons of clothes. She doesn't eat anything so I couldn't get her any restaurant gift certificates or a bag of Doritos. The necessities like diapers, formula, wet wipes, and Desitin were out because I'd have to be a truly terrible parent to get my kids things that they actually need for their birthday of all days. So, instead, I bought her this:
Happy Birthday baby girl!

Mariah got fun-dip from Grandma and Grandpa Wilson for Valentine's Day. I think that's the first candy she has ever had. It was a little too sour for her taste, but she ate enough to turn her tongue green (see above).

Mariah is cruising and crawling all over the place and starting to take steps. She's starting to talk too. She says, "oops" when she falls on her bum and "uh-oh" when she drops something. She's already interested in the piano and guitar. She likes to "play" them and "sing" along.

MULLETITS

Mulletitis [mûl-ĭ-tī-təs] serious inflammation of the hair just above the nape. The only known treatment is a sense of self-respect and fashion and access to a good barber. It is most commonly found in the American South, South America, Eastern Europe, and back-woods, back-hick, small towns everywhere. This disease turned pandemic in the late eighties to early nineties everywhere. Billy Ray Cyrus is believed to be one of the main sources for the outbreak. It affects mostly men but there have been cases found among women. The mullet is also known as: the ape drape, "business in the front party in the back", the short-long, the Mississippi mudflap, Trans Am, the neckwarmer, just to name a few. A few days ago this pandemic swept across Orem, Utah and I became one of the few who came down with a serious case of Mulletitis.

In case any of you are wondering, I am planning on cutting this atrocity off today.

RC Willey Adventures

Yesterday we decided we'd get a jump start on our tax return and purchase some new living room furniture. A few days before we put some money down on a sofa/chair/ottoman set with the intent of picking them up on Saturday if we were unable to find something else we liked from RC Willey's sidewalk sale. Well, we did find some furniture we liked at a significantly lower price so we took the on sale stuff instead. We brought it home, took the old stuff out and started bringing the new stuff in. We got the chair in (as seen below with Mariah chilling, drinking her bottle) and started bringing the sofa down when we discovered that it was going to be a tight little fit to get it inside our door. Long story short, four hours and two dozen profanities later we concluded that the sofa was not going to fit into our apartment. We then loaded all four pieces of furniture back onto the trailer and dropped the old ones off at the D.I. and brought the new ones back to the store. Anyway, the day ended with the chair back inside our apartment and a matching love seat and ottoman on order. I think it will be a while until we buy some more furniture for our apartment, or it could be today. We'll see. Here is Mariah helping mom empty the dishwasher.

Growing girl

Mariah is ten months old now and at the most fun age yet. She makes me laugh all the time with her constant babbling. Her newest sounds are theta and zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Mariah loves to dance to music. She has been dancing with her legs for a while now, but today she added her shoulders to the mix. Mariah's favorite show is The Backyardigans. She laughs her face of every time it comes on. And, as you can see in the picture above, she has two teeth! However, even with her new teeth, she still doesn't see the need to add new foods. I guess I'll just have to be patient.
